By attending Combat Lab, you’ll consistently strengthen your core principles of safe, dynamic combat, whether unarmed or with weapons. You’ll develop breadth, confidence, and adaptability as you learn to:
Anything To Do Outside Class?
No homework—just enthusiasm.
Combat Lab is designed as a drop-in training space, and everything you need to participate, practise, or perform is built into the session. If a Lab includes text or scene work, we’ll give you time to rehearse it in class.
Do I Need to Bring Anything?
• Comfortable movement clothes
• A reusable water bottle
• Something to take notes with
• Gloves for weapon work (full-finger leather or gardening gloves—nothing slippery or bulky)
If you don’t have gloves, we have spares.
Is There an Assessment?
Not in the traditional sense. Combat Lab is a training gym, not an exam course.
However, many Labs include opportunities to perform phrases, polish choreography, or shoot short action clips. You’ll receive continuous, constructive feedback and professional-level coaching.
Industry Relevance
Stage and screen combat is an increasingly vital skill across theatre, film, TV, motion capture, immersive performance, live events, and SPACT-based work.
Whether you're training for drama school auditions, working professionally, teaching, or levelling up your action toolkit, Combat Lab keeps your skills fresh and current. It’s also a great place to network within a supportive community of performers and practitioners.
What Can I Do Next?
Combat Lab is designed to be part of your long-term training ecosystem. Keep levelling up by combining Labs with other courses and disciplines, such as accredited weapon Systems with the British Academy of Stage & Screen Combat. These Equity recognised qualifications include:
Come back often, try new themes, revisit old skills, and keep your craft sharp—no matter your level.
"I have always had a great time taking part in the combat lab sessions. With different themes each time, it keeps things interesting and refreshing while also having the opportunity to experiment and apply the skills that I acquired from different courses. For example, I got to try to experiment fighting with a quarterstaff with a cloak in the superhero themed session. And, of course, I also got to learn new skillset in a lot of those sessions!"
Aison Clark
"Since joining Combat Lab, I’ve noticed a real jump in my skill set thanks to the consistency of regular training. Having that regular training in short, consistent bursts has really pushed my skills to the next level. Each week I can feel myself improving, and it’s given me so much more confidence to step onto set knowing I’m sharp and ready.
Everyone is so welcoming and supportive, and it’s such a joy to meet new faces, make ‘fight friends,’ and work with different partners. Every person brings a new challenge, and that variety has helped me grow in ways I couldn’t have managed on my own.
The instructors are fantastic — they’re experts at what they do, but they also make sure every class is fun and engaging. The themed sessions keep things exciting and fresh, so no two weeks ever feel the same. I genuinely look forward to it every week, not just for the training, but for the atmosphere, the energy, and the community.
Combat Lab has become such a highlight of my routine, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best things I’ve done for my development as a performer."
