What Will You Achieve?

This course covers the foundations of stunt work, focusing on fights, falls, and reactions. You will gain essential knowledge and practical skills for safe, effective, and dynamic stunt performance.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Perform armed and unarmed combat sequences safely and convincingly
  • Execute reactions such as hits, weapon kills, and gunshot responses
  • Perform impacts including tackles, slams, and checks
  • Perform falls, rolls, and stunt falls such as flat backs, tacos, and Hong Kong twists
  • Carry out basic jerk backs with correct technique
  • Understand body mechanics, safety principles, camera awareness, and performance technique
  • Build confidence, physical awareness, and adaptability
  • Develop skills applicable to stage, screen, and stunt performance

Students will leave with practical, performable skills taught by working stunt and fight coordinators.

 

Course Structure & Assessment

This is a practical training course, structured around:

  • One-to-one and group exercises
  • Theory and technique breakdowns
  • On-set scenarios
  • Practical exercises using crash mats and stage-safe weapons

There is no formal assessment. Instead, students receive ongoing, supportive feedback, allowing you to develop at their own pace while striving for excellence in a motivating, safe environment.

 

Industry Expertise & Instructor Support

The course is led by professionally working stunt and fight coordinators with extensive experience.

Students benefit from:

  • Real-world tips from industry professionals

 

What to Bring

  • Comfortable movement clothes
  • A spare top (you will be active!)
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Something to take notes with
  • Gloves for sword work (simple gardening gloves or leather gloves that aren’t slippery)

No gloves? No worries—we have spares.

  • We have a matted floor so no need to bring knee pads.

 

Entry Requirements

Open to all. No previous stunt experience is required.

Beginners will gain a strong introduction to the skills needed for stunt work, while students with some training can refine and build upon existing foundations.

Recommended preparation (optional for beginners):

  • BASSC Unarmed or BASSC Film Fighting Foundation: Unarmed
  • Any of the following BASSC Sword systems,  (Rapier & Dagger, Broadsword, Sword & Shield, Swashbuckling).

The skills taught in this course are essential for anyone wishing to work as a stunt performer or action actor. Students will gain practical, transferable skills for theatre, film, TV, and motion capture.

The course provides the foundations required to perform safe, dynamic, and believable stunts in any professional environment.
